vector formats into InDesign?

hi all.

is it possible to /import/ a set of lines in vector format (such as DXF) and to then (ostensibly) convert these to various objects such as layout lines and content outlines?

i work in CAD and i have to get a number templates prepared and i realize that some of the proportional tools that i am familiar with in CAD will make this very easy for me to do this quickly but also to think it through as i am working.

Use Illustrator as an intermediate application. InDesign cannot import CAD formats but Illustrator can. Then save as an Adobe Illustrator (AI) file.

One thing to watch for : CAD files in my experience come into Illustrator as RGB. If you want the lines to be a CMYK black, be sure to convert to grayscale before placing them in InDesign.
