photoshop cs6 crashes when i use the oil paint filter

when i open the filter, 10-15 seconds later the screen goes black then white and an error message pops up saying that the nvidea "driver crashed and has recovered."

 

i cant turn off openGl becuase i won't be able to sue that filter.

 

im stuck!

    I would first check out your GPU.

    Actually I got it to work, when I use the sliders it crashed but when I gradually moved

    The sliders it didn't crash. This is too much time consume and it's

    Not normal, I may have to update my driver

    Yes, seek a driver update at www.nvidia.com.  Display driver updates fix many problems.

    The driver update didn't help but it did show what the problem is

    It says that the driver cannot handle the oil paint filter memory usage

    Is there a specific setting I need to change for photoshop

    In the nvidea driver control panel, I have played with the

    Settings but has nt made a difference yet

    Do you have Photoshop CS6 Extended?  If so there's a Preferences panel called 3D where you can set the amount of graphics processor memory Photoshop is to use.  I'm not completely sure that affects the GPU usage in non-3D operations, but it's worth looking into.
