Using eyedropper in color picker in CSS Styles panel or CSS rule dialog box in order to sample color in design view outside of immediate color swatch causes crashes in Dreamweaver 5.5 with Mac OS 10.7 Lion.
I know this is not your exact issue but try #12 and #4:

Thanks for your suggestion! I tried #4, and #12 but unfortunately still crashing if move color picker away from immediate color swatch area. Basically unable to sample color with the eyedropper and as soon as I move the cursor ie eyedropper to sample another area in design view a crash occurs. This happens across all of my sites in design view. I don't think this was occurring some weeks ago so it appears to be a new issue for me. Previously I was able to sample color without problems as I recall even from another open browser. Clydecus
Have you found a fix? I have the same problem. When I use the eyedropper tool to select a color, the eyedropper icon disappears, then DW crashes. I posted the problem last week on the forum but have not gotten any replies. I am on a new iMac, Lion, DW CS 5.5. The problem began last week after receiving my software update notice from Adobe and installing the update. (5.11?) No problem before that. Any help on fixing this would be most appreciated! Thanks.
Actually I installed that update as well about the time that I started having problems but had forgotten about it until you mentioned it. I have not found a solutiion so far. hopfully one of the Dreamweave Adobe developers will check this out and see if the latest update will cause the eyedropper tool to have bizarre behavior and cause the crashes.
Sorry to hear you all are running into this issue.
Can you confirm a couple of details for me so I can have the Dreamweaver team investigate further?
- What build of Dreamweaver you are using. (Go to the Dreamweaver menu > About Dreamweaver.)
- What model of Mac you have. (Go to the Apple menu > About This Mac, then click More Info. It should be listed as the Model Identifier in the Hardware Overview.)
I am running OS 10 Lion 10.7.4(11E53) on Mac Pro 2x3.2 Ghz Quad-Core Intel, Memory 8 Gigs. Dreamweaver 5.5 version 11.5 Build 5366 and I updated in the past two weeks or so. I am not certain but I think the color picker problems began about the time of the last update. The workaround so far has been to not stray with the color picker eyedropper outside of the swatch area in order to avoid an immediate crash.
Basically it is not possible to sample colors outside of the swatch area with the eyedropper tool. Also once one has selected the rgba type color indicator it is near impossible to get back to hexadecimal color designation without crashing.
Thanks everyone for your responses so far. We are still investigating the issue, but so far have not been able to reproduce the issue.
Do any of you have extensions installed for Dreamweaver CS5.5?
If so, please share which ones. (To get a list, go to Help > Manage Extensions, and see what is listed for Dreamweaver in Extension Manager CS5.5.)
Hi Carey.
I did not have any extensions installed for DW until yesterday, so it is not an extenstion issue.
The extension I installed yesterday is:
Lorem and More version 1.2.1 / David Powers
I really think the problem has something to do with the last update. DW was fine and dandy until updating.
I also found another crashing issue yesterday: Trying to draw an image map. ![]()
Carey-I have 6 extensions installed. All of these were installed some time ago and I don't think I was experiencing problems with color picker until recently.
My extension list is as follows:
Adobe Style menu version 5.3.4 by f-source
f-source-UI Graphic User Inerface v 1.6.1 by f-source
HDR Processor v 1.1.0 by webstunning
Html Audio Player v1.o.2 by Flash Development
Dreamweaver Flash Gallery v 1.3.5 by WebStunning
WebStunning Video player v 4.3.6 by WebStunning
Same issue here. The only way I could get it to work again was to reinstall the original version I purchased. Version 11.5 Build 5315 doesn't have the issue. I've confirmed this by reinstalling and updating several times.
What motivation does Adobe have to resolve this issue if they have released CS6? Is anyone having the problem in CS6
Everything was working fine for me until this last Dreamweaver update I installed. Since reinstalling my older version, resetting my preferences, I am having frequent crash issues. I know, I know... that's a different thread.
I'm seriously afraid to dish out hundreds of dollars to update my CS5.5 unless I know that this issue is fixed for both 5.5 and 6 versions.
Thank you all for your patience. I received an update from the Dreamweaver team.
This bug was somehow introduced with the recently released 11.5.2 update for Dreamweaver CS5.5. For now, they have pulled back this update while they resolve the issue. (NOTE: The update for Windows users is still available, since it is not affected.)
To avoid the issue, the recommended thing to do is to revert back to the original installed version of Dreamweaver CS5.5. To do so, simply run the installer from your DVD or download, if it's a Creative Suite you only need to select Dreamweaver to install, and then run through the re-install.
After the installation completes, you'll be back using Build 5315 and will not encounter this issue with the color picker.
We'll be sure to update you as we have more info.
baubeis, you can instead just download the trial of Dreamweaver. See this article for instructions and a link: http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs5-5-direct-download-links.html
Hello All,
The issue is caused due to a depricated API "CGDisplayAddressForPosition" on Mac 10.7.
This has been fixed and the the patch is under internal testing.
We would like to get this patch validated with the community users also. You can contact me at yprasad_at_adobe_dot_com for more details.
