Can We Help Adobe?

Jun 29, 2012 5:14 PM

Well, of course we can. Most of the "regulars" here do that nearly every day.

Something came to light (at least for me today), when there was discussion on a couple of aspects of the Forums:

The "Correct," and "Helpful" markings for Replies, that help the OP, but can only be awarded, or altered by the OP, or a MOD.

The "Was this helpful Yes - No?" area below a Reply.

Adobe is working hard to improve the usefulness of the forums, and to help those, who post with problems, read the forums to solve their un-posted problems, or those who help out in the forums.

When you encounter an OP, who HAS found resolution, encourage them to mark the thread as "Answered," and the Reply, that solved their problem, as "Correct," with any "Helpful" Replies.

When you encounter Replies, that ARE Helpful, mark those yourself.

Adobe is keeping track of those, and having more useful data, will make their job easier, and their support of the forums more efficient.

    hmmm...

that's good advice especially with the " was this helpful " thing..and of course the " answered" thing...

but I must note that some so-called 'solutions' to problems encountered with adobe product requires using 3rd party plug ins (that do the h264 export better than native adobe solution for example...as posted by Jeff recently )...OR ELSE doing something like using frameserver or whatever...

OR ( as Colin used to help with a lot ) doing some tricky command line stuff that would deal with some issues re: re-wrapping codecs )

IN OTHER WORDS some solutions are actually sorta like jumping through hoops to make a better end product that has little to do with adobe unless adobe " fixes " some of these things by programming and buying rights to codecs and so on ( example : with sound the dolby discount from minnetonka ( my new neighborhood ! ) is a help but vegas I think gives it to you free ....for example )...

    So anyway, moving on...

    you said

To what purpose ? if adobe gets the info and the database of "helpful", "answered" and "groovy suggestion" is passed on to adobe via this forum, what's the point ??  Will this automatically get to the attention of the ones doing the upgrades and 'feature requests" ???  I doubt it but that is my hope....

I think this percieved 'disconnect' between the forum and the feature request department needs to be addressed by adobe...and that is beyond the scope of this forum...it's an internal problem with passing on the info to make the program ( premiere pro suite ) 'better'.

This gets complicated cause the overall 'aim' or 'goal' of the company is kinda ethereal.  is it market share ( lowest common denominator of pro sumer and hobby stuff ) or is it geared toward pro work ....or what ??

So why not find out what the focus is with regard to where adobe is going in the future and that way everyone has some idea what is most important to spend time yappin about in detail ??  If I need to run stuff through redcine X before importing to adobe, whats the point of any conversation about that stuff ?  Or alexa ....do I need to run stuff through arri raw converter first ?? and whats the point of spending time on THAT conversation here if go pro is the main market they want ??

yes, I hope the data is helpful to adobe also. I shudder to think ( if its in the form of a relational database ) of the SQL statements necessary to pull out that useful info for a coherent 'message content' type of extraction...from threads marked helpful etc.

Don't ever try to concatenate 'snakes' and 'frogs' is my sincere opinion....

Then again, just going into this snake / frog business for a moment...books and scripts and plays are generally used as source material for dramas, documentaries, etc...

when you think about it, those books and scripts and plays are the product of imagination ( and sometimes research of historical facts ).

History ( see the essay on types of history by author of 'war and peace' usually printed at the end of that book by most publishers --eg. cultural history, event driven history, person driven history etc ...see also Tuchman and Barzun on this subject ).

Bottom line, snakes and frogs reflect that human genome of imagination and fantasy often used both to write, shoot and edit films... as well as to simply have fun...which to some people is one facet of the POINT of entertainment media

( I made up that phrase ' human genome of imagination' )
