Get the Render Queue number (no experience)

Jul 1, 2012 1:32 PM

I have never used Scripting in/for After Effects, but I have a little experience with some programming languages and has some computer skill.

Short: I have a text in my composition and want it to show the current Render Queue number it has.

Long: I have asked for a expression in the After Effects-forum but was asked to look here instead. What I'm trying to do is make my text-object show it's Source Text as the Render Queue number it has. If I put the same composition in the queue three times and render, I want all three clips, which are exactly the same, show numbers 1, 2 and 3.

I don't know how or where to execute scripts in After Effects, but I shouldn't have too much problem with the scripting itself. I'll just ask questions as problem occur.

The only way I can think of would be for your script to take over the render sequence. So it would mark items 2 and 3 as UNQUEUED, set the source text of your text layer to "1", render, then mark item 2 as QUEUED, set the text to "2", render, and so on. Would that work for you?

    > But how do I use scripts in After Effects?

Basic information on loading and running scripts is in After Effects Help here:

    "Scripts"

Information on writing scripts is in the scripting guide, linked to from here, as well as several resources (like Dan's site) linked to from here.
