How do I repeat an Ai CS3 path

In Ai CS3 I have created a single 'heartbeat' ECG path and want to repeath the path to creat a continuous ECG trace.  Is there an automated way to acheive this.

 

If I have to use 'cut-and-paste' how would I join the individual paths together?

    Apply the transform-effect and create some copies and an offset.

    Deanieweenie,

     

    If I understand it in the right way, you may use Effect>Distort & Transform>Transform, setting the Horizontal Move to the width and with the desired number of copies. You may Object>Expand Appearance and join the paths afterwards.

    Or you may do it the Direct Selection of coinciding Anchor Point way.

     

    Or James may post his Join script(s).

    Monika, Jacob,

     

    Thank you for your replies.  I have tried Effect>Distort & Transform>Transform but it doesn't appear to do anything.  I have the path selected before I go to the effect.  I have chosen 7 copies and offset it using horizontal move by various amounts.  Ai thinks it has applied the effect as I can undo it.    Where am I going wrong?

    I didn't realise that the path had to be stroked for the effect to work.  It is the stroke that is repeated, not the path.

     

    Thanks for the tips which helped me work through this.

    It would be good if the path did show for the 'repeats' as an ECG trace is not uniform across every heartbeat.  It would be useful to be able to tweak each repeat individually.

    Apply one of the other effects, like roughen.
