Just watched a Julieanne Kost video about creating a 32-bit (HDR) image in LR 4.1. I tried this technique and after importing the HDR 32-bit image back into LR 4.1 (from Photoshop CS5 HDR Pro) the resultant image is blank with a warning triangle that reads "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo. You will not be able to make adjustments to the photo. Would anyone have an idea why this happened?

Victoria,
Thank you for the quick and correct reply. I had saved the HDR image in PSD format; didn't realize that it had to be TIFF or DNG. I'm not sure if Julieanne mentioned that in the video. Oddly, back in LR4.1, when I right click on the TIFF 32-bit file to "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments" in Photoshop, it does not open the image. However, the image will open in Photoshop if "Edit a Copy" (of original file without LR adjustments visible) is selected instead.

Double check that you're using a TIFF, and not a PSD file. LR will only import 32-bit TIFF or DNG.

CS5 probably doesn't know what to do with the file as 32-bit processing was added to ACR 7.1 for CS6.
If you set Photoshop CS5 as a secondary external editor (as well as your normal primary) then you'll force LR to render a 16-bit TIFF to pass to CS5. Or use Export with an Open in Photoshop CS5 post-processing action.
Thank you for the tips. I shall try them out in the near future!
