warping arc text!?!?!?

Confused? I am looking to alter my text on a arc path (the arrow below) BUT at the same time control the height of the text from left to right (left being shorter than the right). The letter also need to go the length of the arrow without looking stretched. Make sense? I know I can easily do this in photoshop, but the size of the when complete will be approx. 7 ft wide x 1 ft high so I really need it in illustrator to make the file more manageable (an preserve my transparancy around the arrow). Thanks!

Can't you just expand the appearance (Expand / Expand Appearance) of the Arc'ed text once it's arc'ed and then apply a Mesh warp to it?

Hmm...I have never used Expand before. I just tried and the results I am getting are not helpful. When I select the arc text, I can only choose Expand (Expand Appearance is greyed out) and all it does is outline my text and the bounding box is a rectangle. I tried having the arrow and text selected at the same time, with the same results. And, Expand Appearance is still greyed out. Could you please let me know what I am missing? Thank you!

Have you tried Envelope Distort? You can adjust the height as you are saying, and even edit the envelope after it's applied for greater control.

(Example on top is after adjusting the envelope to make the right side taller.
