Red color problems in LR 4 - hi gamut monitor?

Jul 2, 2012 4:28 PM

Have found the red color of a rose/poppy etc. looks very different in the Library module than it does in the Develop module.  Only seeing this problem with red color........scrolling  back and forth from library to develop shows the rose has a deeper/darker/more coral-red color in Develop than I see in library module.  When edited in Photoshop, back in LR4 the PSD matches the red of the Library module, NOT the develop module.

Using an NEC Multysynch PA 241W monitor, color managed with the NEC synchmaster x-rite eyeone display 2.  Anyone else having this problem?  Thx much

That's fairly typical for very saturated colors on wide gamut monitors. The Develop display is the most accurate one. In Library, the image is displayed from a adobeRGB jpeg preview regardless of whether the source is raw or psd. In Develop the image is rendered through a linear prophotoRGB space before converting to the monitor profile for display. What you can do is softproof the image for adobeRGB in Develop and see if you see the same color shift. Also, see if the color is out of the target gamut and the monitor gamut by turning out the out-of-gamut warnings. It is not unlikely that, even on a wide gamut monitor, the color of the flower is outside of both the adobeRGB gamut and the monitor gamut. In those situations, you can expect a large color shift to happen when you convert to another color space.
