Photoshop type texture. How to do?

Jul 2, 2012 9:40 AM

Hi. Currently developing important apps for education. Looking for great styles to imitate. Must be fast but nice.

We have seen Phineas and pherb style drawing and it looks very quick. We were wondering how you do the background you can see in the following link.

Especially the brown brick as we can't do that in flash as there are no textures. The rest I suppose in just drawn and then lots of cut and pasting.

And the same question for plants versus zombies - those terrains and grass. Must be some sort of brush on PS.

Thank you for your help.

If this is sort of what you are talking about:

    Text_Texture_Fx_01.png

Then the Fx/Styles will get you pretty close. The lower part of the screen-cap shows which Fx I added.

The Texture Overlay was with just one that I had hanging around from another job.

Choose an Extra Bold, or Black font, to see the Fx.

    Good luck,

The "brick" looked like an illustration.

The "look" of the Texture Overlay, will depend heavily on the image that you choose to use. I just had some "bubbles" handy, so used that as an example. It was not meant to try and mimic the "brick" on the Disney site. I'd search for an illustration of a brick wall, and then perhaps manipulate that, to suit, prior to applying it as a Texture Overlay.

I have created all sorts of Textures for use in PS, in similar fashion, in Corel Painter, with Effects like "Glass," etc. There is no limit, other than one's imagination.

There are also many additional "tricks," that you can apply, such as doing an Emboss on just the Stroke of the Text.

    Good luck,

The dirt in the game illustration, looks like mezzotint or similar. You could use almost any noise for the background and use one of the pixelation filters to give it a more blocky look.

If you plan on teaching especially with an app that can be purchased by the general public. It may be better to come up with your own images/textures and show how you did those rather than duplicating someone elses work, or get permission from them any way.

Just my two cents and my assumptions (how ever good they are)...

Ah see, now thats why I added assumptions to the end of my post. I usually get something wrong, when all the info is not there. LOL.

    BTW you're welcome...
