Hi folks,
I've used PSE since version 1 and hardly ever a problem until v 10.
It is installed in the default locations in win7 64bit. I've installed it three times so far.
I try to start the Editor from it's exe file to aviod the Unwelcome screen.
v 10 Organiser runs perfectly well.
SInce Editor sets up ever time and looks exactly right, even loading in the picture selected in Organiser for editing, it must be something at the very final stage that is being looked for that isn't found. The first mouse click every times results in Editor freezing and displaying the Adobe error message top left, 'Adobe Photoshop Editor (Not Responding).'
I can't go back to version 9 because I can't find my CD - but that isn't the point. v 9 worked correctly on this machine.
Can anyone offer hope - please.
Thanks.
Ian.
photodrawken, thanks for the suggestion,
Used to have in V 9, with add-ins, but no mods to v 10 at all. Standard install into standard directories.
I had both V 9 and Elements and Primier installed and removed only Elements, but that shouldn't affect v 10 should it?
Just to be on the safe side I checked that there is no other director named plug-ins outside the V 10 install. There isn't.
I've also ran a registery sweeper to check all is OK. This made no difference. I had tried to run v 10 Elements from the .exe a few times before cleaning the registry.
It clearly is something at the very end of the set up, but it is every time. If a photograph is picked for editing from within v 10 Organiser, the photo appears as it should, including the red sash in Organiser to show that an edit is in progress. Whether the editor is fired up from within organiser or from the .exe file, the result is exactly the same: at the very first mouse click the Adobe error message pops up and the editor freezes.
The editor has never worked. Organiser works fine.
Thanks.
Ian.
Are you using multiple monitors?
See if the Event Log can shed some light on the problem: Start...Control Panel...Administrative Tools...Event Viewer. Expand the "Windows Logs" folder in the left panel and select the "Application" log. Look for any items with a red icon and that refer to PhotoshopElements and copy the error info into a message here.
Ken
Hi Ken.
Only a single monitor.
I did check this about three months back when I had another focused attempt to resolve the problem. It was always the same: 'cross thread deadlock'. I never got further, which meant that I got nowhere!
I first installed to drive D, Proram Files (x86) and I thought that I might cure the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling onto drive C. No difference. I did install with Norton 360 turned off this last time, but still same error.
Event log: I didn't get very far before. Here's the first of the day opening from editor.exe.

Thanks 99jon,
Both 'opening as administrator' and clicking a jpg direct to open in editor give the same error message in Event Viwer as before, namely 'cross thread deadlock'.
It's not a question of stabilty: Editor has never opened correctly. As I said earlier, no problems with Editor v 9 on this machine and Organiser v 10 works flawlessly.
Tanks
Ian
OK. I assume you are not running a network calling up information from a server. The only other thing I can suggest is running in safe mode to try and pin down or isolate the problem or raise a case directly with Adobe Support. Good luck.
