Hello: Newbie/Windows 7 64bit
I am following a tutorial that says to Duplicate and other times it says to copy.
I cannot find anything on the menu that says Duplicate.
So, I am wondering if either maybe the tutorial is for an older Illustrator or if the tutor is just using the terms as meaning the same thing.
In Photoshop I believe they are different and yeild different results.
If they are different in Illustrator CS6 can you please tell me how to Duplicate?
Thank you
Duplicate means to create a copy. Copy means to store a duplicate. Clear now? ![]()
Chacnes are for the tutorial you're reading there's no difference. Without seeing the actual steps there's no way to know for certain. But within Illustrator there is no "Duplicate" command, so chances are the author simply means "Make a copy"

here is the tut: http://designinstruct.com/drawing-illustration/how-to-make-a-golden-co mpass-in-illustrator/
it's down a bit under step #6
select the object > group together > duplicate > rotate by 45 degrees > scale down
and now here's an other problem i am having ...
> place under the needle ... i cann't seem to place my object down one step ...
maybe b/c my layers are a bit messed up? arg.
but even if i have one layer shouldn't i be able to use the Object > Arrange ...??
thank you
I checked the link to the tutorial, I went to step 6 and found the phrase you tried to quote, then in the search box of my browser I searched for previous usage of the word "duplicate", and this quickly took me to this:
"Hold down Alt/Opt + Shift, then click and drag the line downwards to duplicate it."
I copied your "quote":
select the object > group together > duplicate > rotate by 45 degrees > scale down
and paste it in the search field of my browser, it didn't find anything. I cut it in half, still nothing. Then I had to spend time scrolling and looking manually for step 6 and closest match to you quote which was:
Select all the objects and group them (Ctrl/Cmd + G). Duplicate the group and rotate the duplicate by 45o
Next time when you try to quote a tutorial use copy and paste.
