AME CS4 Crashes on Startup

Jul 8, 2012 11:12 PM

Hi I have been useing AME CS4 along with PPro and the rest of the Production Premium suite for some time now.  All of which are installed on a windows machine running Vista 64bit with Matrox Axio LE hardware.

Yesterday AME was working fine and today when I ran the application it crashes on the startup.  Nothing has changed since the day before so I’m confused as to what has happened.

I have tried re-installing the program twice along with Encore CS4 since I cannot install AME alone but I still encounter the same problem at startup.

The error reads.

Any help is appreciated.  I’m reading other posts to find possible solutions.

Thanks!!!

Did you move your watch folder without telling AME where it went?

I don't know, what is a watch folder?

It's that thing referenced in line 5 of your crash report.

CS5 and later had better watch folder management than CS4.

I don't know how (or if) a watch folder was created in your case, but trashing your preferences may be the way to delete it.  Try launching AME with the Alt key held down -- hopefully that will reset your prefs.  If it doesn't, you'll have to manually find the prefs file and delete it.  For CS5+ on Windows 7, it's here:

    C:\Users\Jeff Bellune\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\5.5\AMEPrefs.xml

YMMV.  There's also a Watch Folder Info.xml in that folder in CS5.5, so you may want to look for and delete a similar file before you trash your prefs.
