I am using HP Compaq with Windows 7 Pro. and recently I have been unable to download/open/print .pdf files.
When I try to 'open' a newly received .pdf file I no longer get the Adobe window asking me what I want to do; I just get an Internet Explorer window asking me to open / save/ save as. However, which ever one I choose - open does nothing, and both of the save and save as give me a file with the .aspx somewhere in the name of the file and my download window says that it is unable to download the file.
Has anyone come across this problem at all ?
I have contacted the senders of the .pdf files and they tell me that it is my computer that is at fault - has anybody any idea what it might be ?
All useful suggestopns would be greatfully appreciated.
Old .pdf files which I have saved I can still open OK.
Further note: on my old HP computer still running Windows XP I CAN download / save / print the very same .pdf files with no problem !!
Thanks for answer - I have done this - both 'repaired' via Adobe and through my computer, and when that didn't work I un-installed and re-installed it. Still no joy !

Just looked through some of the problems others are having with .pdf file and I have very similar ones to Jeal.u. I also, can use an different computer [HP Compac running Windows XP] and can download the .pdf files I want without any problems at all !! - as soon as I click on the .pdf the Adobe Reader window opens as normal. Incidentally my 2 computers are on a home network - so I saved one .pdf and 'shared' it with the problem computer. Then I opened Adobe Reader on my problem computer and asked it to open this shared .pdf - and it did ! ! ! Thus I have a work-around to get hold of .pdf files - but I still need to know how to solve the matter on my problem computer.
You tried to describe your problem in detail, but I still do not exactly understand what you are doing, and what is going wrong. A few questions...
How do you receive these PDF files - via email; as attachments, or as links to a web site to download? What is your email client (email program)?
Your mention of .aspx indicates that there is a website involved somehow.

A. Company - sent .pdf as attachment Re: problem with .pdf files to email message
B. National company sent .pdf as a link [power company sending 'view my
bill' link] - this is the one which sometimes shows the .aspx in its file
C. Website Re: problem with .pdf files giving me a link so I can download and print a gift
With all of them Adobe Reader does NOT open - only an small Explorer window
with options to 'Open' / 'Save' / 'Save as '.

If I ignore the actual links in the emails and open the website in question,
log in, etc. and find the file I want, trying to 'open' them or 'save' them
gives the same unusable results.
I would add that I have an older HP computer running Windows XP and on this
I CAN save/download ANY .pdf file. Therefore, as a work-around, I get hold
of the .pdf file I want, save it with Adobe Reader, put it in a 'shared'
folder, and as it is on my net work, I can then open the .pdf file with
Adobe Reader on my 'problem' computer.

I have already tried re-installing Reader whilst browsers and Outlook closed
- but no help. I will, however, try a different browser as you suggest.,
but this may take a day or two as we have power supply problems in our area
at the moment and are suffering loss of electricity at odd times - altho'
the power company are trying to locate the problem it's still a bit hit &
Further to recent reply to you - I have now downloaded and installed
GREAT NEWS - it works fine and when I click on any incoming .pdf file -
ADOBE READER OPENS ! - just as it should and I can 'open' / 'save' and
'print' them without any more trouble.
