I use 2 cameras for events.
Both cameras are syncd to date and time.
They are not set up to avoid the possibility of overwriting by the same filename assigned by the camera. This seems potentially problematic and is not foolproof.
The workflow I tried was:
Load D700 files into one folder
Load D90 files into another folder.
Batch rename the D700 files as a text/sequence e.g. Event_001 to 099
Add the D90 files to the D700 folder.
Select all and batch rename e.g Event_001 to 250.
Next Select All and sort by Date Created (i.e. the date taken in camera)
Select All and Batch Rename e.g. Event_001 to 250.
Note I have checked the Time Taken filter in Meta Data
Now, there may be a smarter way of going about this, but at no time did Bridge ever sort in order of time taken so that all my photos for the day could be put into sequence.
Bridge only sorted by date taken and then by file name order.
Summary objective:
To end up with all photos taken using two cameras and multicards arranged in sequence by TIME TAKEN, without the fear of accidentally overwriting files of the same name assigned by the different cameras
Any help with this, please?
I know from other posts that some users think they can not sort by time, but finally by digging discouver you can sort by time. In addition the time is recorded to 1/00th of a second so the likelyhood of having the exact time on two cameras are slim.
Pros have to have time sorted shots, especially when they shoot bursts of many frames per second.

I'd recommend a creative use of bridge's batch rename: Load all photos from one camera into your desired folder. Batch rename them all by prefixing the camera's file name with a camera-unique tag such as D7 -- something that would not be possible as the first two characters of camera created file names. Then load all photos from the other camera into the folder. At his point there should be no filename synonyms.
I sort by Date Created (English language selected, I don't see a 'time taken' sort option in Bridge).
I regularly do a variation of this with Canon camera files: load files from one camera's memory cards, batch rename the first three characters (IMG) to a camera-specific string, then repeat for other cameras.
Hi
Thanks for Forum responses so far....
The workflow to ensure NOT overwriting 'same name' files from different cards used is fine.
BUT, when all files are selected i.e from all cards used in a collection, Bridge will simply NOT recognise the camera EXIF data to sort by Date/Time.
I have treied switching on/off different filters under preferences. I know how to use thr sort function at the top right - all to no avail.
This has to be one of the most frustrating issues that I've come across! With the number of photos taken, sorting Manually is simply not a viable option.
I appreciate the help that Forum members offer, but how can I bring this directly to the attention of Abobe to respond? It seems that they steer you either to Forums (no disrespect) or to FAQs, but never to the person who should be able to help!
Any suggestions, please?

You might try posting in photoshop family community support. It is another forum, but Adobe folks read and respond there. Headline text: "Share an Idea, Ask a Question or Report a Problem and get feedback from Adobe and other passionate users."
Did you ever get your sort by time problem solved?
Here is a link showing how others made it work. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/874989
Hi Kurt
I really appreciate you following this up but, in truth, I'm still not sorted out even after reading the information from the link you sent.
I have taken a screen shot of my Bridge page which have been sorted by Date Created.
The IPTC Core shows Date Created for each photo as dd/mm/yyyy, hh:mm:ss. The Content Table shows the same, except for the seconds value.
The problem seems to be that Bridge will recognise and sort different memory cards used in the same camera, but it won't integrate or interweave cards from (two) different cameras, *** illustrated by the screen shot.
I've highlighted 2 photographs in the Contents Table that lie at the interface of the problem:
All photos including and above 04/03/2012, 19:24 are in perfect order using several cards in a D90.
All photos including and above 02/04/2012, 15:49 are in perfect order using several cards in a D700.
I've tried turning on/off a number of options in Bridge Preferences, including Camera Model, but it makes no difference. I must be missing a trick somewhere. Is there something else in Preferences that I've missed?
Kind regards
Andrew
Did not get the screen shot. You can upload it using the camera icon in the reply box toolbar.
I think it may be more data in rather than Bridge handling the data. Here are things I would check.
1. Do you use a card reader to transfer data? More reliable than transfer by camera. Also, a dedicated USB card reader is more reliable than built in ones in computer.
2. Do you format your cards IN THE CAMERA after each data transfer? Have had some posts were user inadvertently switched cards on different model camera causing problems.
It might be a data issue rather than Bridge. However, when I look at each photo individually it appears that Bridge has (read) all the information e.g. Bridge shows the Date and Time info down to the second for each photo from both cameras. Because of that it suggests to me that Bridge is not handling the data it has or that I have not got the correct filters switched on...
1. I use a dedicated Lexar Pro reader for the D700 CF card, but use the reader built in to my iMac for the D90 SD card.
2. I format in-camera. Because the cards are different for each camera (CF/SD) the current default option is dedication to each camera.
I'll try to attach the screen shot. By the way the Date Created under the IPTC Core is shown as multiple values because 2 photos are highlighted, but whn a single photo is highlighted the info shown is dd/mm/yyy, hh:ss
