Suddenly, I cannot open the Edit program without getting the error dialog "This is not a valid Portable Document File (PDF) document. It cannot be opened." It pops up when I open the program, try to open any document (trying to work with JPEGs), or if I try to click on anything in the program... tool, menu, etc. EVEN WITH NO FILE OPEN! The error pops up constantly and the program is totally unusable. I ran the update program and it is the latest version, but this keeps happeneing. HELP!
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or hold down the keys whilst clicking on the desktop icon for the Editor or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Programs folder. Keep holding down all three keys until you get the settings option. You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File? Click on Yes Then wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences.
Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 settings (or whatever version this)
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 paths (ditto)
Repair permissions and try again. If you are using lion, that library is hidden. To see it Option-click the Go menu in the finder and it will appear below the little house for your user account. While you are in there go to the Saved Application States folder and delete any states for PSE.
