Flash latency when offscreen.

We have a fairly complex Moodle installation with a typical page that includes an .swf production with both audio and video at the top of the page, and some supporting text below it. Sometimes, this is a lot of supporting text.

The issue we are having is that the audio and video synchronization come apart, if the .swf is scrolled off of the screen.

Imagine a list of, say, a half-dozen items. The audio and video begin with the first element highlighted and the audio saying "First..." When that part is done, the highlight moves to the second element in the list and the audio continues, "Secondly..." and so on.

While this is going on, if you scroll through the text to the bottom of the page, the audio continues as before, but when you return to the top of the page, the .swf is highlighting item 4 while the audio is saying "Lastly, ...".

We've tried moving things into and out of Moodle and it still happens. I thought maybe it's our hosting, but I tried a .swf on my own personal pages hosted through FatCow and the same thing happens there. It happens, to one degree or another, in IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera browsers.

I think it's especially bad if someone clicks on the vertical scroll bar and holds it, while moving up and down through the pages.

Can anyone tell me, please, what's happening here? And how to fix it, if a fix is available?

Thanks!
