what is the best way to remove blue reflections due to mixed white balances?

Jul 10, 2012 2:57 PM

Hi,

I have this photo taken in tungsten light, but there remain reflections from the outside light (the sun) which of course appear blue-magentish.

I thought maybe mixing with yellow-green could help eliminate them. Actually I only need to decrease their saturation and thus become like other whitish reflections..

Any ideas?

Thanks!CamposantoLaPiedad-1876.jpg

One way might be to use a hue/saturation adjustment layer and target the blue-magentish reflections

which is present in the carpet near the wall plug as well.

If you photo is a camera raw file, probably most of the corrections can be done in camera raw before going to photoshop.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but I see nothing wrong with having the bluish-white reflections in the image, but of course that would depend on your need/use for it.  Having no reflections at all would make the backdrop behind the crucifix look dull instead of shiny, and I find that overall the image loses something if it all is made kind of warmer/yellowish.

Sometimes I test my point of view by actually following my advice (or what I advise against).

I think I was wrong in my post above.  Just some ideas, letting the creativity flow...

    • Healing Brush Tool to paint out the light highlight reflections in the marble backdrop.
    • Cloning and Healing Brush to remove the electric fixture.
    • Color Balance to darken
    • Lens Correction, Vignetting to darken the outer edges.
    • HDR Toning to help bring out the dark wood.
    • Some Burning to darken the frame around the backdrop and the walls.
    • Selective burning in green and blue channel to warm still too cool colors.
    • Some effects on the lights.
