multiple domains pointing to 1 site

Hi..

If I add multiple domain names to a BC site, just using the "New Domain", does the system handle it in such a way that its not regarded as duplicate content? There is 1 default domain, so how are the rest of the domains treated if added, ie does it use 301 redirects so as to avoid the possibility being penalized by Google?

If this is not the way to do it, can anyone explain how to deal with this, as there is nothing in the knowledge base on how to go about it.....

You have google indexing multiple domains. If those domains contain the same content - Duplicate Content.

If you have content within the same site on different pages such as a product under different catalogs you do not get a serious hit with regard to duplicate content but you still have duplicate content and in those cases you use things like conanical to tell google for example which link you would prefer it to use.

You say 301 redirects so I am gathering there are multiple domains to point to one set of content. First question is why? Was it an attempt to improve SEO (misguided by who ever thought it was) or just happen to have domains and combining into one site?

• Yes, the client has bought a few different domain names, all which they want pointing to the same website. (Bad practice huh?)

Anyway, what is the best/simplest way to deal with this type of thing?

Yep Nicole, It is always good to establish what is being done and why before issuing up a sollution to ensure it is done correctly. Ideally this should be done on the domain level though rather then BC but yeah, will work.

Fubals - You will want to do forwards but your right about being bad practise. It will also confuse customers coming from different URLS/ company names linked through the web.

IF they not been associated by those names before then you realy should advise not to do it, if they have been then ok, phase them out over time.
