If I have a client that just wants to make a few text changes on their website from time to time, do they have to have Contribute on their computer in order to do this?  I understand the roles assigned, but what is not clear is what that publisher or writer has to have loaded on their computer in order to "contribute" to changes on their website.  I realize I send them a "key", but what do they have to have in order to be able to use that key?

Technically they don't have to have Contribute. They can use any web editor and FTP into the site.

If they have Contribute, THEN you would send them a permissions key so they can access the areas that you allow. They would simply have to double click the key in the attached email and follow the instructions to gain access.
