Pathfinder's Subtract tool distorting graphics

Jul 9, 2012 2:57 PM

I'm running illustrator CS5.5 on Windows 7.

I'm making variations of a logo and one of them is a single color reverse.  The logo is basically the letters 'MCS' written on a block of color.  When I try to use the Pathfinder's subtract feature to knock out the letters from the block I get some slight distortion on the letters.

I was running CS2 before and I did this many times but I never had any distortion.

Why is this happening?  Is there a setting I can change?

Is "Align to Pixel Grid" checked on the Transform Panel when you select the elements? If so.. uncheck it.

    1. Open the web.ai file at location below
    2. Transform palette >> uncheck "Align new objects to pixel Grid"
    3. Close and save web.ai

That wil keep it off when you chose new document profile web (which I believe flash catalyst is the only other one that has that on)

The above option works for new objects and this option will work for existing objects in your documents if you've already begun work.

With your object selected, view the Transform panel and you can uncheck the Align to Pixel Grid option.
