Well, I reckon this is the last time you'll see me here for a very long time, if ever again.
No, I'm not giving up Adobe in favor of FCP-X. I'm not even giving up Adobe in favor of Avid.
I'm changing professions.
Starting August 1 I'll be working as a property manager for a lodge and retreat center in Pagosa Springs, CO, one of the most beautiful places on earth (THE most beautiful, according to the host of The Amazing Race, and he ought to know!). I'll be doing building, grounds, fleet, and equipment maintance; marketing and booking for the lodge; staff management; budgeting; bookkeeping; and anything else that needs doing that my staff won't do. Gonna be a big change, but it's been my dream job for a long time, and its finally happening!
I'll still be using Adobe frequently for developing marketing pieces, our website, and perhaps promotional videos. But I won't be doing video production for a living any more, so I won't be here regularly.
It's been a great forum, a great place to hang out! If any of you ever come out Pagosa Springs way, look us up... www.snowwolflodge.com. There's a nationally acclaimed brewery in Pagosa Springs, and I'll treat you to a drink! Or if you have a group of folks, or a family group, that wants a retreat center for a reunion, a conference, or even a hunting trip, I can hook you up!
Good luck all you Adobe friends!
sometimes saying goodbye is like saying hello .... ( the beatles...you say goodbye, I say hello ? )
anyway, how do you feel about the fish at Navajo Dam ? Do you like them ?

edit:
ps... Dave.. that's great news ! I'm really happy for you and family ( especially the little one who can now grow up in a cool area of country that is very healthy etc...)
Probably will become the next 'daniel boone' of the wild west ! ?
Wow, Pagosa Springs eh?
It IS a lovely area of the Earth, and is a wonderful place to just kick back, relax, do some trout fishing, hiking, climbing and 4-wheeling.
While we usually were a bit to your west, we spent many great weeks in the near-by San Juan Mountains. Still, we very often traveled through Pagosa Springs, on our way to/from.
IIRC, Joe Cocker, the rocker, has a bar/restaurant there (or maybe Del Norte?).
Enjoy, and commune with nature. Lot of that right on your doorstep! If you get a moment, I also recommend Lake City, just up the way. From there, a short, fairly easy 4-wheel pass (either Cinnamon, or Yvonne/Engineer Passes) over to Silverton (via Las Animas) and then Ouray. Great trip, and really takes you to "the top of the world."
Now, though you have changed careers, and lifestyles, you do not have to be a stranger here. Just stop by to say "Hello!"
Best of all luck,
Hunt
PS - a cousin died recently, and I ended up with her "trout ranch" to take care of, and try to sell. Had that been in Pagosa Springs, and not Navajo Dam, NM, I think that I would be tempted to buy out the family, and run it myself.
I don't think we need to put this info " saying goodbye" in a negative light...
eg: Dave is moving on to another job and location and lifestyle etc.. but he is STILL DAVE ! Just another part of Dave, as yet undiscovered by Dave ( which makes this all the more exciting and cool for Dave cause he's wanted to make this change for a while now ).
Hence...he is NOT SAYING GOODBYE ....he is just moving on to cooler stuff.
One of the great things about making movies and editing and the 'arts' in general is that it is generally directly related to real life or fantasy or drama or SOMETHING ...which is a very " people friendly " atmosphere.
We in the Video Lounge ( although I can only speak for myself ) love people, and eat yoodles and drink coors lite etc ...or wine....and keep in touch with people and their lives etc ....cause it's part of what we do in our own lives...
Think of the magic of music, dance, sculpture, painting, photography, video, film ....it's all about " PEOPLE" mostly.
I haven't met a green frog yet who actually makes movies.
Or a dog that can talk ...
So Dave is not saying ' goodbye' ... he is saying " hello " to something new and exciting in his life....
We will share that with him and he doesnt need to be using adobe editing stuff etc to keep in touch with us here in the lounge and eat some yoodles with us ( with half life of 1000 years ).
We might even start an 'adobe lounge' script based on Dave's experiences during and after his move !!!!! and make a movie !!!
Soooo, now that we got that straight... a moment to celebrate rather than be bummed out.... I'm wondering how you feel about fish Dave ?

hehe... it wasnt THAT bad ! I wouldnt change my name after being on the credits for it...
but it was kinda nice ..those guys always basically made fun of stuff in a fun way.. not mean spirited...
the movie ' a hard days night ' ( well , not a movie as much as maybe one of the first mtv music videos...but with a whole album ) was very cool. I saw it about 2 years ago and gave to my niece... and I really thought it was pretty good for a music video type thing...
honestly im not much into music video stuff so what do i know ??

I stayed with the camera thing and took a few more instant pics but now its dark in my apt...and lighting is flat...even with the 3000 high contrast stuff...so now I'm thinking of getting out the strobes too...maybe bang one strobe across the living room...for some highlight...being b&w color balance dont matter...and I got a lamp Im trying to sorta deal with...shooting stuff is fun.

i wonder what dave is doing now... he is a good 'shooter'...but probably packed up his camera already.
hey Dave...if you wanna sell your camera stuff etc keep me in mind when you get out to the snow wolf area... when you get bored from the 27 feet of snow surrounding you... and so on... get that camera out and start shooting stuff... and then come back and eat some yoodles with us and put some wood in the fireplace and so on...
geez.. i miss that warthog already and he hasnt even left yet....![]()
