Do I need Cold Fusion to setup Active Directory authentication?

Jul 10, 2012 2:25 PM

I'm using Dreamweaver 3, and set up basic password protection using the server behavior tool.

However, it would be more convenient for users if I could authenticate them against Active Directory. I've done some research and see references to Cold Fusion. Is this required, or does it just make the task easier with ready to use forms? Or are there other add-ons or extensions for this purpose?

Any assistance is appreciated.

JB

You need some form of database to authenticate the user and the over-whelming view on these forums is to use WordPress (or some other CMS applications) to do exactly what you want to do.

If you want to try WP then go to this link and create a free account:

Create a dummy website and then try to create some dummy users to test it out.

Cold Fusion is yet another server like Apache which about 2.5 people on this planet use it.  Apache has about 6 bn people using it.  Microsoft's IIS is used by about 6.5 people!!!  These are real figures manufactured by yours sincerely in his kitchen table.

    Hope this gets you started.

You don't NEED cold fusion, but you do need server-side script and database connection compatible with your server  (i.e. PHP/MySql (Linux), or ASP/MSSql (Win) or something else...)  If unsure, ask your host.

I disagree.  WP is a very popular CMS/blogging platform in PHP/MySql however you don't NEED it to create what you want.

Which programming languages and databases does your server support?

Sorry. I don't use Windows servers so I'm useless in all things MS.

Do you have Cold Fusion installed on your servers?  If you do, that might be the way to go.

Honestly, you'll find more coding gurus over in the Application Development Forum.
