I'm using conditional text for the first time to create Part I of a large book as a separate book. To avoid unresolved cross-references to chapters in Parts II and III, I have made them hidden conditional text. However, when I update the shortened book, they still appear as unresolved.
Yet a search for unresolved cross-references shows that there are none, as it should.
It makes no difference whether 'Show Condition Indicators' is on or off, although if it is off, as I really need, I get an error message, 'Use Condition Indicators setting is inconsistent'.
Could you please advise on what I am doing wrong?
Usually those sort of messages happen when each of the component .fm files don't have the same conditions or Show/Hide conditional expressions. I seem to remember it just honks at you and you can accept each message or tell FM to ignore any further ones - I don't think it has any real effect on your book. Are you seeing some effect?
As you surmise, these error messages are not show stoppers, as I had previously thought. I managed to generate a TOC, even with them in the Book Error Log.
It seems that FM is generating them in error.
