What exactly is happening when you try to caption?

    Operating system?

Where are the files stored?  How much free space is on that media?

Is your external drive 1Tb or larger?

Try adding captions via the properties panel. Right click on your first thumbnail and choose Show Properties from the bottom of the context menu.

You can enlarge the panel by dragging the bottom right corner. Make sure you are using the general tab. Enter your text in the caption field, then use the right arrow key to move to the next thumbnail.

It’s an alternative way of adding captions which uses less memory than opening images full screen.

The Organizer preferences may have become corrupted, needing to be automatically re-built on a re-start.

    Close Elements.

Click the Start Button and then your user name and navigate to:

    C:AppData à Roaming à Adobe à Photoshop Elements à 10.0 à Organizer

Delete the PSA file (with key symbol) and delete Status.dat

    Re-start the program

Sorry, I gave you the wrong file path. Should be Elements Organizer folder.

AppData is probably a hidden system file; so you will need to show hidden files before you start.

    Annie,

How much free space is available on your system (C:) drive?

If we temporarily leave PSE out of the picture, can you use Windows Explorer to copy image files to and from that external drive?

    Hi Annie,

No, I suggested doing a test with a couple of images outside of PSE to see if there's a problem with accessing your F: drive.
