cannot invoke tabbed documents in FW CS6 mac Lion

can this be done:?

when there are mulitple douments open, can the interface be set to have tabs for each file visible?

I cant seem to get such a basic setting to work what hope have I got?

    Within Fireworks' Preferences (the General category), have you selected "Open new document as tabs"?

    I had, but I was in some sort of "Full Screen View" without realising that . . .

    Must have been late.
