Creating additional shipping charges for perishables…

Hello everyone!

We're working with a Deli and I have some questions on how to get BC to work with us on some shipping options:

  1. Some items are perishable and need to reach the customer within 1 to 2 days max. These items will need a certain amount of ice / coolant to keep them fresh during shipping.
  2. Sometimes the order will contain non-perishable items as well as the perishables.

How do we:

  1. Set parameters on the individual products or entire catalogs (ie: perishable catalogs) to include cost of coolant, cooler, and extra shipping (based on weight and dimensions to predict cooler capacity necessary) to accurately provide final costs related to shipping.
  2. How do we auto-split non-perishables into a separate order to help the customer save on shipping charges?

Thanks in advance for any insight to these challenges!

    Hi BaseZero,

I'd say use the product attributes to add prices for coolant and cooler, use the shipping options to calculate the resulting weight and dimensions.

Number 2 sounds could be handled with shipping options that exclude a specific catalogue (you would need a catalogue for  perishable and non perishable products of course).

Just a starter, not sure if that helps you any.
