Mercury Playback Engine Bug Discovered

Hello,

 

I'm color correcting XDCAM EX mp4 quicktimes of talent in front of a white screen using RGB curves and after I export an h264 the color shifts dramatically. The white screen in the background becomes blue.  I tried switching to software acceleration and things export as expected.  CS 6, 2010 MacPro, Lion, Quadro 4000.  I'm on a deadline and would appreciate any help.

    Here's a partial screen grab of the footage (interviewee is public figure):

    Exported with Mercury Playback Engine GPU/CUDA Enabled:

    The white screen shifts to blue.

     

     

    Exported with Mercury Playback Engine Software Only:

    The white screen looks white, as expected.

     

    I tried a few different sequence settings and export settings and got the same result.

    This is probably not a bug, but the result of the way GPU acceleration handles light, which is different from the software mode.

     

    If that's right, there's little you can do here but continue in software mode.

    It doesn't matter to me how they handle light, the color should look the same for both methods.  MPE CUDA should be faster and the same or better result, not worse.

    It doesn't matter to me how they handle light

     

    Well, if that's the correct explanation (and I'm only theorizing it is), then it matters because your only fix is to turn off hardware acceleration.

    Hey Steve,

     

    I'd be happy to.  I changed something in the project that caused it to export OK, not sure what it was so will have to figure it out when I get a little time to recreate the issue and then I'll contact you.

    Did that mean the "issue" is no longer an issue and not repeatable?

    It is repeatable it's just that I have to go back and figure out what combination of settings was causing it.  I have all of the old sequences in the project and once I have some time I will go back and figure out what setting(s) were causing the problem.
