Alt key annoyance

I use 'alt+mouse wheel' a lot to zoom in or out, and when I do it toggles menu selection(see the image). and it's really annoying because I must click somewhere or push alt key again since any hotkey doesn't work in this state. Other hotkeys using alt key doesn't have this problem but this one does. Is there a way to solve this other than using different methods of zoom?
