Illustrator CS4 [cant] error message when opening

Hi all,

 

I've just installed Illustrator CS4 twice and still get this error. i'm running it on a Dell 745 with Windows XP SP3.

 

When I open Illustrator I get the following error message

 

"adobe illustrator cs4 operation cannot complete because of an unknown error [cant]"

 

tried to google it but can't see anyone else having the same problem.

 

any ideas?

    Well, it hangs on Updating font menu, according to the splash screen. Ergo, the most likely reason is, that you have a "bad" font on your system. Remove it and AI should launch. And before you ask: Yes, remove all fonts that are not system fonts. You can add them back step by step later to find out which one exactly caused the problem.

    Went into adobe type manager and deactivated all the fonts. illustrator opened. then went through the process of ticking the fonts and re-opening illustrator. illustrator opened fine until i came across Tahoma Bold. this font was crashing illustrator. thanks for your help. really appreciate it.

    Hi,

    I'm having a similar problem. How does one deactivate all fonts, so that Illustrator will open. I can't seem to find a type manager and am now trying the Adobe type manager light. But just in case you know a way to fix this more easily, any chance of some help with this? Thanks.
