Is there good training/information step-through on using the 3 way color correction in CS6?

I am looking to see if there is a good source of information about how to use the 3 way color correction in premier Pro CS6?  It's very complex and daunting when I first look at it, and I would like to figure out how to use it effectively for my underwater footage.

    FWIW:

     

    Anyone planning on doing CC and Grading should consider learning a bit about color science as regards CC / Grading.

     

    There are many good books from Colorists (eg Van Hurkman or Hullfish/Fowler ) and I am sure there is plenty on th e web  about this extensive and interesting topic.  A lot of CC info is very applicable and helpfult to photography as well.

     

    These are the fundamentals and basics that apply to all CC/ Grading applications and  will make it easy to understand the "controls" as well as the techniques  required.

     

    Without the basics...its very dififficult to progress in these apps.

    I have not seen this particula one, but in general my oppinion is that there are many good CS6 training courses at Lynda.com - sure worth the subscription fee.

    First, to get the basics of what color correction / grading can do, you need a book on the topic like Alexis Van Hurkman's Color Correction Handbook. One of the best technical books I've ever read. Highly recommended.

     

    Then, you'll probably want some tutorials on the specifics of the software you are going to use. For PPro CS6, I like the tutorials that Andrew Devis had done for Creative Cow. He's done seemingly hundreds on all aspects of PPro; search around the Cow site and pick and choose. The first six or eight of these short tutorials on this list should get you started.

    Last year at the recommendation of shooternz and Todd Kopriva, I purchased the Hullfish/Fowler book and it has made a major difference in the quality of my work. I had little appreciation before that of the importance of understanding video color fundamentals and not just which sliders to tweak. I understand underwater color has its special challenges, so I don't know if this applies to the OP, but if you have a video camera that supports customizing color profiles, there is a great deal you can do in-camera to make color correction in post much easier. This feature is buried deep in the menus of my main camera and is poorly documented, but after reading the Hullfish/Fowler book, it made the customization understandable.
