I have inserted a video into a Captivate 6 project. When I publish and preview the swf, I see a "connection error" message instead of the video. I have tried flv and Mp4, importing to the slide and to the library. What am I doing wrong?
Hi,
Can you please provide us with the following info so that we can see what the actual issue is?
Which version of Flash Player did you publish before for which it did not work?
It showed connection error while accessing for shared location or local system or both?
What is the video type? (Progressive/Streaming/Flash Media) you can get this option in Video Menu-> Video Management...
Thanks for your co operation
regards,
Hari
Hello,
When publishing as SWF: Progressive download videos will not play when I publish using the default Captivate 6 setting of Flash Player 10. It works when I select Flash Player 9.
When I switch the video to streaming or Flash streaming, nethier 9 nor 10 setting works.
I am publishing to, and viewing from my local computer.
When publishing as HTML5 and viewing from a web server:
Everything in my project works fine on an iPad, except the video slide. It stays on screen for the correct amount of time but nothing appears. I tried setting the Action - On Enter to Show the slide video, but that does not work either.
The HTML5 Tracker does not list any items as unsupported.
Hi,
Can you provide us with the project so that we can take a look and pin point the exact issue?
you can mail the project at har@adobe.com
regards,
Hari
CODEC stands for Compressor/Decompressor.
It refers to the algorithm developed to compress and decompress multimedia such as a video or audio file.
On2 Technologies was a software company that developed a very effective CODEC known as VP6. The On2 company was acquired by Google in 2009 and many of their products are no longer available.

However the On2VP6 CODEC appears to be still available because it is open-source.
I am having the same problem as well (Captivate 6 flv video connection error message). The videos play fine when previewing the project, but no matter how I publish the project I get the connection error. I have tried adjusting the Flash Player setting. I am testing it on my desktop, so it has nothing to do with any webserver settings. The only way the the project will play properly is by opeing the .htm file in Chrome (IE, and Firefox have the "connection error"). I am really at a loss as to where to go from here.
Rod,
Yes, it is a trusted location. I was able to find a work around for the issue, but I have not found a resolution to actually solve the problem. Here is the workaround:
1- Delete .flv videos from the slides, save project, close Captivate
2- Open Adobe Media Encoder CS6
3- Import .flv files into AME
4- Convert videos to .mp4 files using the H.264 preset (Androind Phone & Tablet 480p 29.97 fps 640x480)
5- Export .mp4 files into the same folder that contained the .flv files
6- Open Captivate in Administrator mode, re-open project
7- Import .mp4 files into the project library
8- Drag and drop videos onto their respective slides
9- Save and publish
Using these steps the project will play fine using any browser, locally in a pdf, or using the swf file.
I would prefer to use the .flv files so that I can use the skins that are available in Captivate for the student to be able to control the movie, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get that to work. It works fine in all of the projects that I created using CP 5.5, but not using CP 6. If you have any other ideas, please let me know.
I am storing my captivate project/videos on my local machine and not uploading to any servers or anthing so that issue is ruled out.
I successfully imported my AVI file that was encoded and made into an .flv file. It is 3 sec long, about 550MB. I can preview the video, but I get the "connection error" after publishing the video and viewing the video. The video is a motion logo and is the first three seconds of my project.
I've called Adobe and they are having the same issue on their end when they tried importing their own video and go to publish.
Is this a bug?
because it shouldn't be this difficult to get this work.
The video works fine in Captivate 5.5 so I know the video doesn't have an issue. I tried opening a 5.5 created project in captivate 6.0, but the video doesn't work there either.
So I am now waiting for Adobe to figure it out and get back to me....oh joy. Here is the error message in case you want to see what it looks like.
Hi Wendy;
How big is the ouputted flv video file? I'm using 6.0 and can successfully publish a 35 mg video file and it runs fine and fast. 550 mg is a really big file for a 3 second video. (even with high res motion graphics) converted to flv its still probably pretty large. So I'm wondering if its giving you a can't connect mesage cause its having a hard time loading it.. just a thought.

So do I. Its strange. I came across this thread regarding Flash Player adjusments.
http://forums.adobe.com/message/4524565#4524565 other that I am not sure. Best of luck

The video previews great when I press F12, F3, F4.
The video is 3 seconds and during those three seconds is when I get the error. The reset of my project is a software simulation that plays great. So my steps were:
1. Select Software simulation as my project
2. Record software simulation
3. Import 3-second motion logo AVI file to the first slide (encoded by captivate)
4. Publish project
The end product was three seconds of "connection error" (where the video is supposed to be) and the remainder of the project playing great.

I am currently haveing the same proplem with flv videos in captivate 6 using IE9 browser unable to find the video. Althought using FireFox 10.0.1 plays videos fine. I did find that if I publish to a file path that does not contain spaces in the path/folder names then IE will find the videos and play them. Very odd, I consider this a Captivate 6 bug because I don't believe I had this problem with ealier versions of captivate.
I tried the whole morning to publish a file with embedded .mp4 video as .mp4.
I got a correct and well-working preview in TMP-Directory, but every publishing-attempt treated video as not been available at the webserver, even if fiile stored locally in same directory.
Result: a good connection error message in the .mp4
What would be the workaround for this?
Maybe there is a workaround by using the URL settings for the progressive DL?
But all attemts here lead to a bad preview rather than to a problem solution.
Could anyone help?
