i desperately need help.
so i was doing a frame by frame animation. i already have over 100 drawn out and everything was going fine till i don't know what i did. so here is my current state
the frame still look the same, if i select a frame it shows the currect layer configuration on the canvas, but the layer pallette shows all my my layers as visible. selecting other frames does not change the layer palette even though the frame changes.
also, i cannot edit any of the layers. i don't get any errors but nothing happens. if i start a new layer i can't draw on it either.
so what happened?
any help is appreciated. thank you.
this is cs5 on mac.
EDIT nevermind, i figured out what is happening, i still don't understand how it happened tho. insead of each frame saving the visibility state, it was saving an opacity state. i don't know how to conver bact to visibility instead since keeping track of opacity is way too hard.
yeah, I think you are working backwards. When doing frame by frame, you need to create a single layer for each frame. Then let photoshop generate the frames. You can clear the frames and as long as the data is in the layers, you can regenerate the frames.
You will find a pop up menu in the upper right hand corner of the animation timeline.
CS3 and higher will allow you to do keyframe animations. This can be quite a bit faster, once you get the hang of it. Majority of the time, this can be used and let frame by frame animations be used when you need to do something that photoshop can't do. Brute force if you will.
When practicing any technique it is wise to practice on dummy data. Something that doesn't matter, if you loose if something goes awry.
well, i had 1 layer per frame. that's how i was working. i'm doing traditional 2d character animation. no tweens or effects.
but all of a sudden in each frame all layers were on, but their oppacity set to 0 instead of the layer being off. i don't understand how in ended up that way. i figured how to set opacity on all frames, but some had overrides so in the end i ended up setting each frame all over again.
i just don't understand how this happened.
Yeah. I understood going into it that it may not of been the best. But i was lookong for something that would gibe me the closest result to a traditional pencil test. All the animation programs i looked into were vector base. So far it looks great. The interface is just not taylored for it.
Thank you all
There’s an animation Forum, too, but I don’t know if it’s worth checking out.

Have you checked out

?
Edit: I have not, by the way …
Yeah. I tried that one. It is a cool app but the drawing tools didnt feel very natural.
It is more important to me that i can draw quickly. Ive got really far in photosop already to switch. Unless there is something that can link to photoshop layers and update automatically. The biggest pain in ps is converting 24fps to decimal sec units to properly time things out.
EDIT: i just found out i can do this in Flipbook. the drawing is just ok, but you externally edit framesand they'll open automatically in photoshop, except everytime i tried, flipbook crashes. ![]()
