I am building a new PC and I have one simple question. Adobe's spec for Premier Pro CS6 says it requires GPU acceleration:
Question: Does anything I want to do REQUIRE GPU acceleration or is it just nice to have for speed reasons?

Start reading some of the FAQ articles.
If you are comfortable with a system that is around 50 times slower than a fast system, and you want to edit AVCHD or more difficult codecs, imagine when a fast system requires two hours to transcode, your system will take 100 hours. If you are happy with that, go ahead.
>run fine without a supported card ( with some performance decrease )
Go to the link I posted and read the entire article
Yes, PPro will run without hardware acceleration... running "fine" is for the individual to decide
As Harm says (and as it says in the article I linked) hardware is faster... but as it also says in the article... hardware is not required
Only you know your budget, and how much you are willing to pay for more speed
Gentlemen, thank you for all your advice. I appreciate that on these forums, giving a simple yes or no is not an option or can be misleading. I did read the full arcticle and, from that, I will inform future decisions.
To be fair, in the original request, I simply asked would PP run without the acceleration and the answer to that was yes. I accept that you were adding the caveat vis a vis speed on high end video rendering as a warning to the non expert.
Thank you both,
