Can't move objects small distances

CS6, OS X

 

I can't seem to move objects in my drawing small distances..I'm used to being able to do this..must be some setting I hit, but I can't find which one it might be. I have snap to off, but this isn't behaving like snap to..it's behaving like I'm only "allowed" to move objects certain distances; any smaller and the object simply doesn't move at all..

 

can someone shine a light on this?

    kat,

     

    Untick Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform panel, and untick it for new documents if you want to avoid it in the future.

     

    The setting is default for formats meant for web and (similar)) devices.

    While I was unable to un-tick this setting, that didn't cure my issue...are those objects permanently disabled from moving as I need to?

     

    Also, I haven't encountered this issue except in the document I'm working on right now..is this something that kicks in by itself..perhaps when Illustrator "thinks" I'm working on web devices?

    While I was unable to un-tick this setting,

     

    Was it unticked?

     

    If so, it may be some snapping that should be unticked. I am unsure about all the options (in CS6), but a search in the Helpfile should reveal them.

    I mistyped; should read: I was able to un-tick that setting in the transform panel.

     

    in the same document, other object let me move them freely, as small a distance as I want to!

     

    if I copy and paste the offending objects into a brand-new document, they still insist on being moved certain increments only.

    It's an object based setting. You have to untick it for new objects and you have to untick it for existing objects.

    FlashKatt when you create a new Doicument such as a web document uncheck the option in the new document options dialog and it then will not be a problem for that document it is a default settings for a couple of the sandard document types that are rgb based.

     

    Always check to see if the option is on when creting a new document.

     

    Also be aware if you are actually creating a web document then the option is actually useful as it will prevent you from creating and aligning elements that will not work on the web as you intend.

     

    Rememebr there is no fraction of a pixel on the web only whole pixels.

    Wade..that is an excellent point and I was thinking "Gee this could come in really handy."

     

    ironically, I am designing for web, but only at the concept stage, but I will keep your excellent tips in mind!
