Frame Animation Layers all are visible!

Jul 16, 2012 10:25 PM

i desperately need help.

so i was doing a frame by frame animation. i already have over 100 drawn out and everything was going fine till i don't know what i did. so here is my current state

the frame still look the same, if i select a frame it shows the currect layer configuration on the canvas, but the layer pallette shows all my my layers as visible. selecting other frames does not change the layer palette even though the frame changes.

also, i cannot edit any of the layers. i don't get any errors but nothing happens. if i start a new layer i can't draw on it either.

so what happened?

any help is appreciated. thank you.

this is cs5 on mac.

EDIT nevermind, i figured out what is happening, i still don't understand how it happened tho. insead of each frame saving the visibility state, it was saving an opacity state. i don't know how to conver bact to visibility instead since keeping track of opacity is way too hard.

yeah, I think you are working backwards. When doing frame by frame, you need to create a single layer for each frame. Then let photoshop generate the frames. You can clear the frames and as long as the data is in the layers, you can regenerate the frames.

You will find a pop up menu in the upper right hand corner of the animation timeline.

CS3 and higher will allow you to do keyframe animations. This can be quite a bit faster, once you get the hang of it. Majority of the time, this can be used and let frame by frame animations be used when you need to do something that photoshop can't do. Brute force if you will.

When practicing any technique it is wise to practice on dummy data. Something that doesn't matter, if you loose if something goes awry.

    Could you elaborate?

Changing the Opacity of multiple Layers is no problem in itself, but I may be misunderstanding your animation process.

I guess in such a case it might be easiest to trash the animation, set all Layers to 100% and »Create Frame Animation« anew.

Personallly I also use Illustrator for animating, so I may not be much one to talk, but you are aware that the task is not a truly great fit for Photoshop?

There’s an animation Forum, too, but I don’t know if it’s worth checking out.

    http://forums.adobe.com/community/design_development/animation

    Have you checked out

    http://www.pencil-animation.org/

    ?

Edit: I have not, by the way …

#sec/number of frames=decimal sec per frame.

    1 sec / 2 frames = .5 seconds

    fps or frames per second:

    30 fps * 1 second = 30 frames

    So 24fps for 1 second = 24 frames

    1 sec/24 frames = .042 seconds
