I'd welcome some advice or tips (Win7, PS CS6). I am trying just for the fun of it to recreate a texture similar to this:
(That is a screenshot from http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/ahmet-altun/gulyesa-script/)
I've tried starting out with noise on a background layer and using different filters (motion blur, crosshatch, fibres), but the closest I've got is this, which isn't what I want.:
I seem to remember seeing a tutorial once in these forums, but I can't find it and I can't remember how it's done.
here is the tutorial! :

(your going to want "woven thread")

Thank you, I tried the woven thread tutorial and came up with a result identical to the screenshot in the tutorial:
This is a nice texture, and the lines are sharper than the result I had posted in my first post, but it is not exactly what I was trying to achieve because the individual lines don't go across the entire image. I will bookmark the tutorial and the article on textures and patterns - it is very interesting!
How random do you want it to look?
I was thinking that you could do something like an Add Noise operation onto a blank canvas, then duplicate into two layers. Then use Motion Blur on each layer, one horizontally and one vertically, then combine them (e.g., Overlay or maybe Multiply).
If you want it to look more regular than this, I can imagine mixing in a component done similarly but starting with a halftone pattern.

There's probably a better way of making a tiny grid.

Thank you, Noel, I think this is about as good as it can get without drawing the lines manually. The psd you posted is great. I appreciate the effort you went to!
I actually found the old post that I remembered addressing a similar request, and you offered a perfect solution back then, too. http://forums.adobe.com/message/3940710#3940710
