I have been playing with computers for over 40yrs.
I've been a computer professional for 30yrs.
I'm experienced with multiple operating systems from Lisp Machines thru Unix/Linux to Mac OS and Windows.
I have been on the Internet since 1982 and am very proficient at searching and finding things on the Internet.
Yet I am been very frustrated with the total mess that Adobe's help and support has devolved into.
I can NEVER find what I want without resorting to asking questions about simple things in the forums.
Everything keeps moving around and changing and its impossible to find anything anymore.
I do a search that is supposedly restricted to InDesign CS4, yet get dozens of unwanted results in other apps and all versions.
I am running CS4 at work.
I want to save a local PDF version of the InDesign manual for CS4.
Finding this on the Adobe site has so far been a total bust.
Could someone please tell me where to download one.... and hopefully where all the other CS4 app manuals are.
I totally agree.
I wrote a blog post on it regarding InDesign Help here:
InDesign CS6 Help PDF Posted But the Content Is a Mess
And there are several threads on the forum which deal with Adobe Help here:
Please add your comments at that link so the people who manage the Help application can see them.
DARN!!!! I finally found it. After reading thru your blog and several other posts, I tried searching on "InDesign CS4 Help PDF"
Actually, given how useless Adobe's search is, I was surprised to find this link right on the first page of results.
Full list of links to the PDF file for all the CS4 apps.

Adobe's site navigation is USELESS!!!!!
What version of Adobe CS 4 Indesign do you have? If I remember correctly, if you are on the Mac, you could use the open the package for the application file and browse through the package and find a copy of the help file in the package. Alas, I do not think I have a computer running Mac CS 4 to check on. I am sure it is hidden somewhere on the windows application as well.
I just googled the help file and found this link: http://indesignsecrets.com/better-ways-to-access-cs4-help-files.php
It should help.
