Preferences folder error (21::7) & (21::19) - AAE CS4 won't start

Whenever i boot the program i get these error messages:

 

After Effects error: finding preferences folder --- no such directory (-120).

( 21::7 )

 

After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {preferences structure invalid}

( 21::19 )

 

After Effects can't continue: unexpected failure during application startup

Hope someone can help me out with this...

    Once this happened to me. I restarted my computer and the problem was fixed. I don't know if it will work for you, but you should try.

    Do you remember messing with anything in the "support files" folder (the place where all the plug-ins, presets, and other important files are kept)?

    Ah, you may have reinstalled, but did you do it properly?

     

    First, you need to un-register the software and  uninstall the software according to Adobe instuctions for your OS.

     

    Then -- and almost no one knows to do this -- you need to run the Adobe Cleaner Tool

     

    After you do this, you then reinstall the software and re-register.  Once that's done, you need to run the update for AE 9.

    If you didn't change the support files, and you reinstalled the product, then yes, the missing files would have been installed. I guess that's not the problem. I don't have any more ideas, but hopefully someone will come along who does.

    Yes, it probably has something to do with that.
