How to make each bookmark start with page 1 of <total in bookmark> when merging word files in X

Trying to combine word files so that each bookmark starts with page 1 of <total in bookmark>.  I keep getting total pages of entire pdf created.  Using word 2010 and acrobat x.  Could do this in acrobat 8 by making a book.  Is a simple thing but what is required of the legal documents we produce.  Cannot find the "Book" command in acrobat x.
