Is there a way to get the font Microsoft Yahei Regular AND Bold working in Indesign?

I have been using the Microsoft Yahei font (bold and regular) for alot of Chinese brochures and have had no trouble in Quark XPress. We have been converting everything we have to InDesign but I cannot get both weights of the font to work. If I remove the regular font from my mac, indesign will see recognise the bold font but it will not see both fonts at the same time. I have tried adding the fonts to the applications font folder but this does not help. The only solution I can think of is adding a 0.4 stroke to the regular font whenever I need the bold but this is not ideal. I have also tried looking for an alternative font to use but it appears that Microsoft Yahei is the best for chinese characters and english charcters and symbols such as the registerd mark and trademark symbol - but if anyone knows an alternative font that works and has a regular and bold weight please advise.

    Sorry I thought that had a solution but I don't see one on it - but it explains a few things

    What is the verion of the Indesign and OS you are on ?

     

    Also are you using any font management software to manage your fonts ?

    We're on CS5.5 at the moment, considering upgrading to CS6 sometime though. I am on Snow Leopard (10.6.8) though it is the same issue on Lion (10.7.4). Not particularly using any font management software, generally install the fonts manually. Fontbook is running (if that counts) and that also seems confused with the Microsoft Yahei font giving the warning that 'multiple copies of this font are installed' even though there is only one Regular and one bold, so am guessing that is just the bug in the font that is mentioned in the link that Eugene has posted above

    If there is no fix to Indesign CS5.5 for getting the Microsoft Yahei font to work in both plain and bold does anyone know of a font that will work in indesign CS5.5 that supports chinese and english characters and has a regular and bold weight? Am just having to apply strokes to any text I want bold in our Chinese brochures which I know is not great (its a shame as this is the only thing I have found that  works better in Quark than it does in indesign)

    The blog post Eugene refers to may explain some of the reasons some fonts might not work, but not in this case!

    Can you check which version of these YaHei fonts you have? Both of mine are v.6.02 and came with Windows 7 -- if yours are the same, the problem lies in CS5.5.

    Interesting, thank you for that reply I did not realise there could be different versions of the font. The one I had was version 5. After trying the new version 6.02 the same thing happened with Indesign only recognising the regular weight, however the display in Fontbook was much better as there was no longer an error (it was previously recognising the 2 fonts as 1). I then added the bold font to the Indesign font folder and that has sorted everything, I now have both weights of that font working. Thank you very much

    Version 6.02 seems to work OK here in CS5.5...
