Some files not seen by import tool

Some, but not all, of my JPG files created by Photomatix HDR are not being seen by the LR 4.1 import tool eventhough I can see and view them in the Windows 7 file system and viewer.

LR just does not see them but they are there.  I tried closing Photomatix, LR and even rebooting figuring it could be Photomatix not releasing a lock on the file but that does not work.

This is not an infrequent problem.  It happens to about 20% of the images I create with Photomatix.

I am not using the export LR plugin

What exactly do you see in the import dialog?

An empty box, checked or unchecked? Or does it even not list the filenames while in the correct folder?

Can you share a printscreen or even better one of the files through some file service?

Could you post a side-by-side screen shot of what is seen in Lightroom and what is seen in Windows Explorer?

Go to Edit>Preferences> General Tab and check the box marked "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos" and see if that cures it.

Lightroom is seeing the TIFF files with the same name as JPEG as RAW/JPEG pairs.

I am guessing that Lightroom is interpreting your Tiff file as the Raw and treating the JPEG file as if you were shooting raw and JPEG simultaneously. Your files have the same capture time and file name with different extensions. Some cameras used to (and still may) store Tiffs natively so it isn't that far-fetched.

To avoid this problem in the future, you should consider having slightly different naming to your JPEG and Tiff if they are going to be stored in the same directory.
