Smart Guides

I'd love a modifing key that would let me turn smart guides off.

 

Many times I am moving something and smart guides want to snap to something I don't want to snap to. So being able to hold down a keyboard combo to temporally turn them off would be great. Just like Shift constraining to 90/45 degree movement.

 

I know I can press ctr/cmd U to toggle off but then I have to remember to toggle on again. A toggle would be more efficient.

    Use ctrl (on mac) while dragging, it will turn it on (or off if it is already on)

    Pressing and holding down Ctrl will prevent snapping of any kind in InDesign.

     

    On a Mac you must press it after starting to drag.

     

    On Windows I believe you have to press it before you drag. Can I have someone confirm this?

    Alec, I don't think so.

     

    I have Mac (CS6) & PC (CS5) and holding down cmd/ctr does not disable the smart guides on either.

    You aren't supposed to hold down cmd at all. You are supposed to hold down control.

    Sorry Eric, you are correct the ctr does it on the Mac. However, I haven't been able to work out what key does it on the PC.

    It is ctrl too, you just need to hold it down before dragging.

    you just need to hold it down before dragging.

     

    I've tried that and it's still snaps. Also tried just after moing to no avail either.
