No audio import ProRes to PC

Jul 20, 2012 10:17 AM

I'm not getting audio from a ProRes Quicktime importing to Premiere or Media Encorder. Files do have audio when played with windows quicktime player or Sorenson Squeeze.

Premiere shows it has audio, just a flat line.

Premiere Pro 5.5

Windows 7

Quicktime player 7

ProRes file:

1920x1080 Squrare Pixel

23.976fps

48000 Hz 24bit Mono

Why use Prores on a PC? You want to cripple performance? Ruin the 64 bit nature of PR by using QuiRcktime?

Prores on a PC is 'not done'. You don't wear jeans to a gala party where tux is the dress code, equally 'not done'.

We import and use ProRes on Windows no problem.   Do you have Quicktime installed on Windows?   Quicktime for windows includes all the codecs for ProRes.  Yes, they are read only, you can't export to them, but hey, it works for us all the time.

Again, we have no issue playing the audio either.   Is Premiere Pro conforming the files?   You won't get any audio until this is completed.

If you load the files in to the Quicktime player on windows do you get audio, or is it silent there as well?

    48000 Hz 24bit Mono

I wonder if that's the issue.  It's not very standard for video.

I use ProRes every day with 5.5 and 6 and have no issues. The audio format for my ProRes files is actually also 24bit Mono with 16 channels and I have no issues. The reason I use it is because our BlackMagic Hyperdeck studio records stuff in this format... So obviously some wierd is going on in your specific scenario.
