Adobe Community: How to map a mono audio track to left or right channel only in CS6?

From the project panel (before you put the clip on the timeline) right click on the clip, select Modify/Audio Channels and set it up to stereo.

Oh, I should modify it before put it on the timeline. Ok, I fix this issue, but I think this workflow is a little difficult to users.

Because it is a mono clip that I can't add "Balance" to it.

I fix this issue in Harm's way, so everything is fine. Thank you!

Balance is one of the "fixed effects" attached to every clip in CS6. You should be able to just pan it as desired.

Hi Jim,

I just tried again, I really can't add "Balance" to a mono audio clip on timeline but stereo audio clip is ok.

Do you mean "Balance" can be added to any audio clip in CS6? Is it I misunderstood something?

It's already there in the Effects Control Panel for each clip, like Motion and Volume.

The Panner is a fixed effect on all audio clips but the "Balance Control" is not included on Mono audio clips.

"Balance Control" is not included on Mono audio clips.

It is for mine.

So out of interest...what does it balance in a Mono Track?

I would test it ...but like the OP..dont have the function.

Well, assuming a stereo Master, it balances to the left or right as set.

A mono audio clip is not in stereo by definition.

Granted, but it can be panned to either the left or right Main channel.

You never used an audio mixer before? Mic inputs are mono, but they can all be panned to either side of the Master bus. Same concept inside PP.

You get both a Panner and Balance on a Stereo Track.

You Get a Panner on a Mono Track but not a Balance

Is that different on your system?

The effect is called Panner for all clips. Twirl it down and stereo originals have a balance control, mono have a pan control. This is the same as you see on a mixer.

So, if you pan left, then the mono audio only comes out the left channel.

OK, so I got the name wrong. But the end result is the same whatever you call it. Sound can be directed to either side of a stereo Master with the built-in Panner effect. There's no need to Modify anything.
