About orphaned files

Jul 21, 2012 2:29 AM

Hi,

I tried to run a sitewide link check and  realized that one of the orphaned files listed was "update_payment.php" ...

So  I did a sitewide search for  "update_payment.php" and  realized that indeed , a couple of javascript were calling this file  out ("GET","update_payment.php?q="+str,true);

That means "update_payment.php" is not an orphaned file ... it is needed ... I also got that with some images files that were listed as orphaned when they were needed ...

The question is : How can we make the most of this DW feature ? What are the limits ? Anyone has tried it out yet ? It sounds wonderfull to have an option that can get rid out of all those files you acccumulated and don't need anymore !

If DW can find all files that contain "update_payment.php" then it should be able to work out if  "update_payment.php" is being called out anywhere (as long as the filename is not given dynamically obviously)...it doesn't seem to work that way ... "update_payment.php" is a file that is harcoded in php and js files ... why DW considers it as orphaned ?

    The orphaned file report will not find links that are embedded in javascript calls.
