How do I avoid the dreaded "jaggies" when saving for the Web?

I created vector art in Illustrator, then saved the file as an .ai file.

 

Afterward, I chose "Save for Web," and exported the file as a .png file.

 

I placed the .png file at 100 percent into a Dreamweaver file.

 

The result is a file with jagged edges. How do I save the file to preserve the smooth vector look of the original file?

    In the save or the web dialog you will notice in the image size area it gives you an opttimzing Options I believe the default is none change it to either Art Optimize or Type Optimize depending on what you are saving.

    Thanks, I followed your lead and changed the optimation to "Type," but I am still getting the jaggies:

    What happens if you use Art Optimize?

     

    In older versions you just ticked the Anti-Alias button hidden away in the Image Size window. I believe that has been split into art and type, and it for your case, art would seem more relevant.

    Was the preview in Save for Web jagged too? Are you checking the result in Dreamweaver by opening the created web page in a browser?
