Problems with Adobe Help Manager (from Creative Suites 6)

Tags: #hangs_while_installing #adobe_help_manager #creative_suites

I'm having difficulty downloading help from Creative Suites Master Collection (for Mac). Initially, as I understand it, help for most products is not installed and it must be downloaded via Adobe Help Manager (AHM), which ships with CS6.

Each time I've run this application it states: "Please wait while the downloaded files are extracted. Extracting large files may take several minutes." Well I've had this run overnight, and it still has this message up. There is no indication that AHM is doing anything, although occasionally the status of one of the apps changes from "Pending Integration" to "Current". But even after 8-10 hours, help files the size of less than 2 megs are still not unpacked.

There doesn't seem to be any information on forums. There is a tech note that says that the application is working, but to be patient. Well I think 30 minutes is patient, overnight (after several attempts) is not being patient. This is broken.

I recommend you simply download the PDF versions of the relevant help files from the online pages. AHM is - well- flakey, to put it mildly. Of course feel free to try another time. could simply be a blockage somewhere.

Same thing happening here.  Every time it launches I get a message telling me there's new content to be downloaded.  When I tell it to update, a window pop up telling me to wait while the downloaded files are extracted.  I've let it sit over night with no changes.  There is no activity on the drive what so ever.  It's just sitting there ...  As corwinsl said, this is broken.

If this is about the previously downloaded files and something getting stuck, then how do we get rid of them and let it start fresh again?  Because obviously letting it just sit here isn't doing anyone any good.  If it's broken, then it needs to be fixed, not ignored.

Yep, exact same problem here too. It downloads the files, then I get the pop-up saying "Please wait while the downloaded files are extracted. Extracting large files may take several minutes." which never goes away. This app is broken. Adobe, please fix! Thanks!

Can you please try the download option listed in Adobe Help Manager | Troubleshoot error codes- http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/help-manager-troubleshoot-err or-codes.html to see if it resolves your difficulties.

I was having this exact same problem and was able to fix it.  The problem is due to the update for "ActionScript 3.0 Reference for the Flash Platform".  That one was showing as "Unavailable" under the "Local Content" section.  So I went to the Download Preferences section and unchecked all the options for Flash, Flex, and Flash Builder so it wouldn't try to get that particular update.

Then I went to General Settings and clicked Download and everything started downloading like it was supposed to and all mine that said Pending Integration updated to current.

So yes that did the trick!

Then I went back to the Download Preferences and rechecked the Flash, Flex, and Flash Builder and they started updating as well.  When it got to the ActionScript Reference, it did pop up the "Please wait while the downloaded files are extracted. Extracting large files may take several minutes." message again but this time it really did only take a couple of minutes.

Now I have everything updated.  Hope this helps anyone else.

    same thing here.

tried a lot of different things - its just not working. even daryl's idea of unchecking the flash-stuff didnt work out.

this help is really a pain. so i get forwarded to the online help everytime i need to check something...

any real help from the adobe team to solve this would be much appreciated.

Pretty much the same here with no error messages.  I can download, and see progress bars for the downloads, network interfaces indicate a download is happening, but as far as things get are "pending integration". The only things that say "Current" appear to be the same ones identified that way at the first invokation of Adobe Help Manager.

I think Adobe needs to provide a tool to allow users to force integration, or, if some temp file has gotten deleted over the months, re-download and re-integrrate the content.

Some of this could be Adobe installer problems.  If I run a registry error scan, I get reference to several Adobe products I have installed, but the installer has misspelled the directory path in the registry entries so they appear to point to non-existent locations.

Also, AE and Illustrator (CS 6) will not let me open any file - earlier generation or current - unless I "Run as Administrator" even though I "own" the files.  Go figure.

I am experiencing this problem as well and have tried the various techniques reported here that claim to fix the problem, but the problem persists.

Basically after the application downloads a help document, the following message is shown and never goes away.  I've let the application sit at this screen for hours and no change.

    adobe-help-error.jpg

I have to quit the application for the message to disappear, but in doing this, I never know if the help documents were actually installed correctly.  I wish there was a way for me to 1) fix this issue and 2) re download any help documents I choose to ensure that the help docs were in fact installed properly.

Same here. Please wait. Let it run over night.

The InDesign reference now says "Current" but the Photoshop (30 MB) is still "Please wait"

Have you tried removing your Adobe Creative Software and reinstalling?  If so did you receive any error messages during the installation process?

And here we go again with another non-help issue from Adobe. This help problem has been consistent for months. I've uninstalled. I've reinstalled. Nothing works...much like the problems with installs failing because some file might have been renamed at some point in time. Come on guys. Stop with the lame "did you reinstall" suggestions and fix the problem.

I actually have to agree with Lee here..why cant Adobe provide .pdf help manuals???.. removing and reinstalling the whole master collection is a time consuming task..c'mon Adobe surely you can provide a better solution..as it stands your flagship sottware doesnt have access to help files built into it or you are unable to download the required info for the programs..Lift your game..we pay good money for your products!
