Isolation mode no longer works as expected in CS6

Previously when editing a group in isolation mode you could double-click a group and then the individual objects in that group become editable. Now in CS6 a group remains grouped in isolation mode, so to edit individual objects the group needs to be manually ungrouped while in isolation mode, then you have to remember to group them again before exiting isolation. This is a very un-useful new development. CS6, Windows 7 x64.

    Actually isolation mode simply tunnels into a group. If a set of objects are grouped multiple times, you have to tunnel in to isolation mode for each grouping.

    Yes that is how it used to work, but it no longer works like that. What I'm saying is a group (with no nested groups) still remains grouped in Isolation Mode in CS6 and individual objects are not selectable. The same group in CS5 when double-clicked will open in Isolation Mode and individual objects within the group can be selected while it is still grouped.

    Works fine on a Mac just as you would expect it.

     

    I have not seen the complaint before so I am thinking a corrupt settings folder or a conflicting softare or font.

    I have reset prefs and done the usual troubleshooting so it is definitely a bug in Windows. I hope it's fixed soon. It's a real pain.

    Not necessarily. Since you are so far the only one posting I would be more incline to at there is a conflict

    As I said, I've done all the usual troubleshooting. And I have run it after a diagnostic boot with nothing else running apart from essential Microsoft services so it is not a conflict.

    I've tested it on Illustrator CS6 64bit (Win7)... seems to work fine...

    Wade you are right - I didn't test it with no plugins. The problem is being caused by the new "CS6-ready" Arlandia Symmetryworks plugin.

    First I am pleased you overcame the problem and that you posed the cause and effect.

     

    Then I am please that this is marked answered and that others will see that inspite of what they might think there is always a good chance, if they are the only one or part of a small group of users, tthat are experiencing an issue that this issue could very well be a conflict even if they tried everything, except of course the one thing they forgot to try.

     

    Plug ins, Fonts, Third party installs and updates are always suspect as is Microsoft software.

    It is nothing to do with Microsoft software which is not suspect and I suggest you work on your Mac-centric  xenophobia .  This is a plugin which is also available to Mac users.

    The problem is being caused by the new "CS6-ready" Arlandia Symmetryworks plugin.

     

    More information from Artlandia support:

     

    SymmetryWorks 5 has a so-called "insertion" mode, which is very analogous to the isolation mode in Illustrator. And the plug-in basically installs an optimization that lets its insertion mode work better, at the expense of the isolation mode (which is not supposed to work inside plug-in objects anyway). In retrospect, that was not the best decision, but it can be disabled, albeit in somewhat tricky way. Here is what you can to do:

     

    - Quit Illustrator

    - Open the Illustrator preferences file with a text editor

    - Locate the following line:

     

                /ResetInsertionPoint 1

     

      (you can just search for "ResetInsertionPoint")

     

    - On that line, change "1" to "0" (zero), save, and close

      the file

    - Restart Illustrator
