I'm having a very unusual problem
I have the full version of Illustrator CS4 which up until today has worked fine. As I've tried to launch the product today I noticed the load-up box said TRYOUT after the title and then the program crashes immediately once the WELCOME screen tries to appear. This happens every time.
I reinstalled the Creative suite from CD twice and still the problem persists.
I've never had a TRYOUT version, only ever the full version which I purchased direct from Adobe.
What's going on?
You have a permission problem and something is blocking the licensing system. Turn off your virus scanner/ security tools and follow the suggestions in the articles below.

Hi Mylenium, thanks for your reply.
I've just sat down to attempt the fixes you suggested, when to my complete amazement, Illustrator launched and operates as expected first time today... I have literally done nothing but leave the computer off for the day (which shouldn't really matter as I rebooted twice last night whilst experiencing the problem above.
It does however still have TRYOUT written in the title as it loads...
